Ideal for a leisurely spring morning stroll with friends, the trail offers a unique blend of art and nature, complete with live bluegrass music. Brookhaven Nature Park
Nestled at 5125 Berkeley St., Brookhaven Nature Park is a 26-acre woodland haven that provides tranquil vistas, including an enchanting footbridge over a stream. This local park is perfect for serene strolls through its natural landscape. Autumn marks an ideal season for hiking here, with the crisp air and vibrant leaf transformations adding to the park’s charm. During a recent visit to this city park, supported by the Jr Woman’s Club of Raleigh, we began our journey at the pavilion and ventured onto the Main Trail. This trail, mostly unpaved and weaving through multiple streams, includes a section touted as wheelchair-accessible, though the path is somewhat uneven and steeply sloped. The trail was blanketed in rust-colored leaves, necessitating careful steps, particularly with young Ashley in tow. Surprisingly hilly for an urban park trail, its seclusion from the bustling city streets enhances its peaceful ambiance. Highlights of our hike included a quaint pond with a viewing deck, perfect for spotting local wildlife like snapping turtles and mallards. The reflective water seemed to merge beautifully with the overhead trees, creating stunning photographic opportunities. After the pond, we continued on the Main Trail, branching onto the Pine Tree Loop and Upland Forest Trails, rounding out our excursion at about one mile. Although brief, our outing provided a delightful snapshot of Raleigh’s rolling terrain. Visitors should note that the park is unstaffed and trails are less frequented, recommending the accompaniment of another adult for safety.
